Preview: Panthers Prep for Out-of-State Road Trip

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — After battling through two competitive games at Grand Valley State on Saturday, March 28, and dropping both in walk-off fashion, Davenport was unable to carry that momentum into Sunday's doubleheader at Purdue Northwest. The Panthers fell in six innings in the opener before coming up short again in game two.

Panthers Top Leaders from the Weekend
  •  Alaina Schwanke continues to build on a strong sophomore campaign, recording a hit in all four games over the weekend to become the only Panther to do so. She also logged significant work in the circle, tossing a complete game of 6.1 innings against Grand Valley State and adding 1.1 innings of relief in game one against Purdue Northwest. Schwanke is now batting .319 on the season and leads Davenport with 30 hits, 15 RBIs, and 39 total bases.
  • Graduate student Kailyne Luna also turned in a productive weekend, collecting four hits across the four games, including a pair of doubles. The Clovis, California, native showcased her versatility defensively as well, moving from third base to both first base and shortstop over the weekend.
  • True freshman Chloe Bruman and sophomore transfer Chloe Parker also contributed steady production at the plate, each finishing the weekend with four hits for the Panthers.
  • Ashley Sturgill contributed with a triple down the RF line in game 1 against the Lakers to bring in two panthers to help tie the game while thru e freshman Lyla Reynolds also delivered in clutch fashion in game 2 against the lakers in a pinch hitting situation ripping a double to score 2 and tie the game. 
Scouting the Opponents 
Wis.-Parkside 
  • Parkside holds an 11–19 overall record and is 2–6 in GLIAC play.
    • Most recently, UWP split with the Grand Valley State Lakers earlier in GLIAC play, followed by a split with the Purdue Northwest Pride, before being swept by both Wayne State Warriors and Saginaw Valley State Cardinals. 
  • Mia Johnson, the back-to-back GLIAC Player of the Year, leads UWP with a .465 average, totaling 40 hits, 9 home runs, 26 RBIs, 32 runs and 33 walks. She holds a .988 slugging percentage and a .613 slugging percentage. 
  • Isabel Aranda is batting .345 with 29 hits in 84 at-bats, driving in 19 RBIs while recording 29 strikeouts. 
  • In the circle, Wisconsin-Parkside has relied heavily on Holly Lowenberg (83.0 IP, 2.87 ERA, 51 strikeouts, 6–6 record) and Casey Jo Vermette (66.2 IP), with Vermette leading the Rangers' staff in strikeouts with 86. 
Roosevelt 
  • RU the Lakers hold a 7-19 overall record and are just 1-5 in conference with their lone conference win coming in an 8-4 win against Purdue Northwest earlier in conference play before being ruled. 
    • Roosevelt will face the Bulldogs of Ferris State on April 3rd before hosting the Panthers. 
  • A trio of Lakers lead the offensive production categories of batting over .300 including Ella Dvoracek .326 (28-for-86), Rebecca Urbaniak at .321 )25-for-78) and Kendall Pearson at .320 going (24-for-75).
  • Five Roosevelt arms have made an appearance in the circle with junior Kailey Hancock leading the squad with 65.1 innings pitched and a staff lowest ERA at 2.89. Sophomore Riley Czarnecki leads with 29 strikeouts however she leads the GLIAC and the staff with 50 walks.
  • Three Lakers — Dvoracek, Kendall Pearson, and Sophia Barofsky — have started all 26 games this season, providing consistent presence in the lineup.
