Weekly Notes
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport Volleyball team opens their home slate this week and also travels south to the state of Indiana to compete against some of the top teams in the country. The Lady Panthers, who are receiving votes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Top-25 Poll, will host Spring Arbor University at 7pm on Tuesday inside the DU Student Center. DU will meet #9 Indiana Wesleyan and #11 Taylor this weekend in part of a 4-match TU/IWU Crossover.
Davenport, 4-1 on the season heading into this week, is receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 poll for the first time in school history. Junior
Nicole Chase has led a very balanced offense as she has posted 53 kills on the season but the team has five total players with at least 29 kills (5.9/match average)
All five teams this week that are on the schedule are part of the newly named Crossroads League. The conference, consisting of schools from Indiana and Michigan, used to be called the Mid-Central Conference (MCC). The tournament at Taylor/Indiana Wesleyan is a homecoming for DU Head coach
Megan Lenhart. The 3rd year coach is from Indiana and started her coaching career as an assistant coach under TU head coach Brittany Smith.
Davenport, which posted a win over #RV Robert Morris, meets two teams in the NAIA Top-25 this week as Taylor is #11 and Indiana Wesleyan is #9.
Tuesday night's home opener is against Spring Arbor University. Davenport has won both of their home openers under head coach
Megan Lenhart and is 14-6 at the Student Center in the last two years.
