MARION, Ind. – Day two of the Taylor/Indiana Wesleyan Crossover saw the same results for the DU volleyball team as they again split with a 3-0 sweep over St. Francis and a 3-0 setback to #9 Indiana Wesleyan. The split brings the Panthers' record to 7-3 on the year and they will return to action on Wednesday, September 5 with a road date at Rochester College (Mich.).
In the day's first match against St. Francis, Davenport used strong runs at the end of each set to prevail 25-16, 25-20, 25-21. It marked the fourth time of the year DU has won in straight sets. In both sets two and three, the score was tied in the high teens before DU ran off some great plays to put away the Cougars.
Leading the way for a very efficient offense that hit .221 in the match was freshman
Molly Lameyer who finished with 11 kills. Sophomore
Hannah Stone hit at a .625 clip while chipping in 8 kills and freshman
Emma Matthew posted a career high 9 kills.
Sidney Rodriguez led the defense with 16 digs while Stone posted a pair of solo blocks and three assists blocks.
Davenport then faced an undefeated and No. 9 ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcat team in the day's second match. Although Davenport battled in each, the host team was too much handing the Panthers a 25-18, 25-17, 26-24 defeat. DU led for most of the third set but the IWU offense was too much to overcome.
Nicole Chase led the Panthers with 10 kills while
Molly Lameyer and
Emma Matthew finished with 8 and 7 kills respectively.
Amber Getty finished with 29 assists and
Kelse Moon was the leader in digs with 13.
Davenport returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Rochester College for a 7:00pm matchup with the Warriors. Live stats will be provided.
