GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport University women's soccer team will be challenged with three matches on the road this week. The first trip will be down the road at Cornerstone University Tuesday at 4 p.m., followed by a visit to Tennessee to play at Freed-Hardeman University Friday at 7 p.m. and at 11
th-ranked Martin Methodist College Sunday at 2 p.m.
In addition to having to play three straight road matches, the Lady Panthers will also be playing seven of their next eight on the road.
The Lady Panthers are off to the best start in program history. They remain undefeated with a 3-0 and not yet allowed a goal.
While Davenport begins playing seven of eight matches on the road, its crosstown rival Cornerstone enters the middle of its five-match homestand. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 2-1 win over Huntington University last Saturday. Anna Stegink paces the Golden Eagles with four goals for seven points and Kathy Butt has started three matches between the posts, carrying a 1.96 goals-against average with 20 saves.
After losing the season-opener, Freedman-Hardeman bounced back from the loss and is currently on a four-match unbeaten streak. Recently, the Lions are coming off a 2-0 win at Bob Jones University. Whitney Newby and Shelby Murray both lead the ballclub with a pair of goals and an assist while Abbey Adkins has started all four matches in goal, allowing five goals for a 1.53 GAA.
Martin Methodist is also on a three-match winning streak, having recently defeated 20
th-ranked William Carey University 2-1 in two overtime periods. The Redhawks trailed 1-0 for a majority of the match until Daniel Sofer scored both the equalizer and the golden goal in overtime. Before the Redhawks take on the Lady Panthers, they will travel to Kentucky to take on Campbellsville University Tuesday.
