GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – As the day went on, the Davenport offense picked up steam as they rolled to a pair of wins over the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) and Judson University (Ill.).  The 3-0 win in the opener was the second sweep of the year over USF while Davenport rallied from a set down to defeat the Eagles 3-1.  The Lady Panthers, who have won their past four matches, improve to 11-3 on the year with a home conference date set for Wednesday, September 19 vs. Siena Heights University.

Kelse Moon posted 28 kills on the day while hitting at a .444 clip as she led an offense that posted 58 kills in the four set win over Judson and 32 in the sweep of St. Francis (Ind.). Amber Getty had a career high 46 assists in the win over the Eagles while Emma Matthew led DU with seven aces in the two matches which included six against the Cougars in the opener.

Davenport 3, St. Francis 0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-15)

Davenport posted their second sweep of the season over St. Francis as the Panthers shut down the Cougar attack while limiting them to a negative hitting percentage in sets one and three and a .029 percentage for the match. Kelse Moon was the lone Panther to finish in double-digits with 10 kills but five others posted at least three. Emma Matthew had an all-around match as the freshman had a line of four kills, six aces, 10 digs and two block-assists.

Davenport 3, Judson 1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-7, 25-21)

Judson jumped out to a 1-0 lead after finishing the first set on a 7-3 run after it was tied 18-18 but DU rebounded in a big way as they saw their offense hit at a season best .317 for the match. After the Lady Panthers tied it up at a set a piece with a 25-17 win in the second, Davenport dominated the third using a 10-0 run early behind the serving of Amber Getty to post an easy 25-7 win. During the run, Moon posted three kills and Molly Lameyer two while the team combined for three blocks. The fourth set saw the Eagles jump out to a 10-5 lead but the offense for DU started to slowly chip away at the lead and they took it for good on a service ace from freshman Sidney Rodriguez. The ace was part of a seven point run as the Panthers never let the team get under two for the remainder of the set.

Davenport (11-3, 1-0 WHAC) will host Siena Heights on Wednesday inside the Student Center at 7:00pm.  They then hit the road for UM-Dearborn on Friday for another conference match. Live video and stats will be provided for the match with the Saints on Wednesday.

Post-Match Notes

The 16 kills against Judson marked a career best for senior Kelse MoonAmber Getty now has gone over the 30 assist mark four times this season…The 11 wins on September 15 are the fastest to that number in school history as DU did not reach that mark until October 1 last season and September 21 in 2010…
