BLACKSBURG, Va. – Playing without many of their usual starters the Davenport rugby team went 3-1 at the Atlantic Coast Rugby League Sevens Tournament hosted by Virginia Tech on Saturday to finish third in the tournament. After finishing second in Group A, the Panthers defeated Maryland 48-5 in the third place game.

The Panthers opened group play with a 24-12 win against Virginia. Four different Davenport players scored trys in the Panthers win. Davenport ran into a tough North Carolina State squad in their second match as the Panthers fell to the Wolfpack 15-24. Davenport rebounded with a 57-0 rout of Virginia Military Institute to finish group play with a 2-1 record. NC State went 3-0 to take the top seed out of Group A.
