DAVENPORT, Iowa. – The 21st-ranked Davenport University women's soccer team played through a scoreless first half but St. Ambrose University, which entered the week receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll, scored all the goals it needed in the second half to defeat the Panthers 4-0 on a chilly and windy Saturday afternoon.
Although the Fighting Bees held a 10-8 shooting advantage in the match, the Lady Panthers won that category in the first half 5-3.
Lizzie Paul led the effort with five shots while
Letesha Cannonier and
Thelma Gylfadottir logged in one.
St. Ambrose played physically aggressive for a majority of the match. The Lady Panthers were starting to build a rhythm early in the second half but a foul in their own box in the 55
th minute gave the Fighting Bees on a penalty kick. The Fighting Bees added an insurance goal in the 73
rd minute before putting it out of the Panthers reach in the final 10 minutes of the match.
The Lady Panthers will travel up north of the state to close out the non-conference schedule at Waldorf College Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
Post-Match Quotes – Head coach
Chris Allen - “The first half was great, both teams played really well. The second half though was a bit different. We gave up our fourth penalty kick goal of the season and we gave away three more poor goals. We have to learn how to stop giving up goals on a PK. But I give full credit to St. Ambrose, they were a very good team in the second half.
