Davenport and Indiana Tech have been two of the top teams in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) over the past few years and 2012-13 is no different as they are tied for second place just one game behind Madonna almost halfway through the league schedule. But the two will be fighting to avoid falling two games back of the Crusaders when they meet Saturday in a showdown of the top two nationally ranked teams in the conference.
Scouting Indiana Tech – (14-4, 7-3 WHAC) – Head coach Al Grushkin
Indiana Tech comes in on the heels of a home loss to Cornerstone on Wednesday which was just their fourth setback all season. Third year head coach Al Grushkin has used a smaller lineup than in year's past after the graduation of All-American Rodney Bartholomew who is now playing in the NBA-D League. The Warriors have been paced by a balanced offense all season led by leading scorer and reigning WHAC Player of the Week Antonio Canon who is averaging 13.4 points per game. Three other players, Melvin Brooks, Jordan Hickman and Jeff Hoskins also put up double-figures each night but the calling card of the Warriors has always been their defense as they are No. 3 in the NAIA DII in points allowed per game (53.1).
Davenport is No. 8 in scoring defense, so the game should come down to who can execute the best on their offensive side of the court. The Panthers enter on a 2-game skid having lost in overtime to Aquinas and on the road at Concordia in their past two contests. Prior to the game, red-shirt junior
JaVontae Ford will be honored for becoming the third player in school history to reach the 1,000 point milestone.
