Box Score Highlight Video

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport scored four goals in the first period and six goals in the second period as the Panthers cruised past the Golden Flashes of Kent State 12-1. Ten different Davenport skaters scored for the Panthers with Zach Blumke and Dan Zawacki each picking up two goals. Davenport and Kent State will take the ice again on Saturday night in a game that is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM.

It took the Panthers a few minutes to get things going but once they did, they scored often. Matt Ogden got the Panthers started connecting on a pass from Alex Ostrowski and Cody Walsh. Then 29 seconds later, Robert Kleiman finished off a pass from Mason Bohlinger and Phil Wendecker to put the Panthers up 2-0. The scoring outburst was capped by an Ostrowski goal off a pass from Stephen Flood. The three goals came in a span of 55 seconds of game time.

With just over five minutes to play in the period, Zach Blumke scored his first of two goals on the night when he got behind the Kent State defense and put a backhanded shot into the back of the net for the short-handed goal.

Davenport didn't let up in the second period with Dan Zawacki getting the Panthers going with a goal 3:25 into the period. A few minutes later, Blumke went five-hole on the Kent State goalie to push the Davenport lead to 6-0. Midway through the period, Bo Jacobs converted on a power play goal to increase the lead to seven.

The Panthers closed out the period with goals by Zawacki, Tyler Quigley, and Luke McCarthy. Zawacki's goal came on the power play when he went bar down and didn't even give the Kent State a chance to stop it.

Travis White and Andrew Frank each added goals for the Panthers in the third period. Kent State scored their first goal of the game in between the two Davenport third period goals.

Matthew Sekosan got just his second start of the season in net for the Panthers. He made 17 saves on 18 Kent State shots to pick up the win and improve to 2-0 on the season.

Davenport and Kent State will take the ice again on Saturday night at Patterson Ice Center. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:30 PM.

Post-Game Quotes – Head Coach Phil Sweeney

Thoughts on the game and ten different players scoring goals. – “It was a very good offensive showing, something that we've been waiting for. We know we have a lot of offensive firepower on this team, we've just been waiting for it all to click with our four new lines that we haven't played yet . When we made them up this week, all the coaches looked at them and we really like them and it was nice to see them really click tonight.”

At Kent State earlier this season, you won 6-0 in the first game and it was a much closer 4-2 win in game two. How do you guys avoid a let down on Saturday night after a convincing win tonight. – “We're healthy which helps out a lot. I think when we went down there, we had a few guys out of the lineup and just a couple guys out of the lineup really hurts. They're short manned right now and I know they're really banged up so we just have to take advantage of it. And guys are battling for ice time. That's just how it is, we have four good lines and guys will have to keep playing hard  to get ice time.”
