DEARBORN, Mich. – The sixth-ranked Davenport men's basketball team got back on the winning track in Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening. Dominez Burnett scored 21 points, JaVontae Ford had 12 and Dawid Czerniawski added 10 as the three led the Panthers to a 72-39 victory over host UM-Dearborn.

Kyle Stidom led the glass with six while Burnett, Sean Hill and Thomas Drew brought down five. In fact, the Panthers (14-2, 7-1 WHAC) as a team outplayed the Wolves (3-13, 1-7 WHAC) on the boards 42-22. Hill and DeArmond Davis led the rebound column with four each.

As a team, Davenport shot 51 percent from the field, and although it didn't have many visits to the charity stripe, it did receive eight free points.

The Panthers opened the first half aggressive on the shooting category, but they used a 17-6 lead with 9:41 left. While the Panthers shot 47 percent from the floor, the Wolves had a hard time putting the basketball in the bucket, shooting 28 percent in the opening half. The Panthers also prevented the Wolves from starting any momentum in the half.

With Davenport heading into the locker room with a 37-13 lead, Burnett led the way with 11 points, while Ford was right on the freshman's tail with 10. Burnett and Stidom also brought down four of their five rebounds on the game in the first half.

Both teams traded off successful buckets at the start of the second half, but Davenport found a rhythm and established a 54-21 lead with 11:04 left. The Wolves first run in the game was 7-0 in less than three minutes midway through the second half.

Burnett, again, led the Panthers in the second half with 10 points while Czerniawski added seven.

The Panthers come home for the first time since Dec. 17 and will host cross-town rival Aquinas Saturday. Before they battle it out on the hardwood at 3:30 p.m., both teams will wait for the women's teams to compete.
