GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's rugby team continues to keep opponents in check defensively as the Panthers blanked Grand Valley State 43-0, the fourth shutout in five games, on a beautiful mid-Saturday morning at DU Turf Field. Danielle Ordway recorded three tries to lead the Panthers with 15 points while Hannah Tennant made seven kicks, three on penalty attempts, for 18 points.

The Lakers, who finished the 2012-13 season ranked fifth in USA Rugby's Top 20, got aggressive on the attack right from kickoff, keeping the ball in the Panthers zone for the first 10 minutes. But Davenport took control the rest of the first half and took advantage of Grand Valley State's mistakes. Hannah Tennant got the Panthers on the board with a penalty kick five yards out with 30 minutes left.

Davenport added on to the lead when the Panthers pushed Cassie Clark to the try zone with eight minutes left.

The Panthers tried to collect three points before halftime when Danielle Ordway's kick from near the midfield line was inches off the crossbar. Davenport had to settle with a 13-0 lead at intermission.

It didn't take long for Panthers to add on to the lead. With 33:24 left, Ordway broke away from midfield and ran all the way to the try line down the right flank for an 18-0 Davenport lead. Ordway did it again at the 19-minute mark only she sprinted through the left side and all the way to the goal posts. As the clock reach zero, Ordway closed the game out with another breakaway to complete the hat trick.

The Panthers wrap up the three-game homestand next Sunday when Western Michigan University comes to DU Turf Field for a 1 p.m. opening kick.
