GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 11 Davenport women's soccer team's quest for an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship will go through their home field.
On Senior Night, Lizzie Paul had a goal and an assist, Laken Duchar-Clark added a goal while fellow classmates Thelma Gylfadottir and Karli Harris both notched an assist to lead the Panthers to a 5-0 win over Concordia to secure the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season championship outright on the final match.
The Panthers, who finish the regular season 15-2-0 overall, 8-1-0 in the WHAC, receive homefield advantage to the upcoming WHAC Tournament, which begins Nov. 6. Kickoff is to be announced at a later date.
Davenport got off to a sluggish start but started to pick up the momentum when VanDerWarf took a shot from 20 yards that hit the crossbar. She got another opportunity at 24:18 when Paul cross found the heads of Cannonier and VanDerWarf in the goal box.
The Panthers added on to the lead 1:48 later as Gylfadottir's cross from the right side found the head of Paul, whose shot hit the right post but bounced off Concordia keeper Stephanie Finilla and into the goal.
Paige Eli would find the back of the net before halftime on a beautiful setup by Karli Harris and Danielle Beery. Harris played keep away from a Cardinal defender before connecting to Beery at the front of the goal box. The sophomore made two quick touches to send the ball back for Eli's blast to the left corner of the goal at 43:58
Cannonier kept the momentum going coming out of locker room as in the 47th minute. As she was dribbling into the goal box from the left side, a Concordia defender tried to stop her but lost her balance and the junior's shot rolled underneath Finilla and into the goal.
Concordia tried to stop another Panther attack as Duchar-Clark's first shot was blocked, but quickly took another shot inside the box that went into the right side of the goal at 58:36.
While the Panthers outshot the Cardinals 30-4, 14-1 on goal, goalkeeper Michelle Marcus made only one save on the evening to preserve her 10th full-credited shutout of the season.

Davenport improves to 9-3-0 all-time against Concordia, having won six straight…Before kickoff, Davenport honored its six seniors: Brenna Hartner, Thelma Gylfadottir, Laken Duchar-Clark, Lizzie Paul, Karli Harris and Emily Nielsen…Michelle Marcus extended her all-time shutout record to 10.2 with the victory… Paul extended her career-leading goals (52) and points (121) while she and Gylfadottir each notched an assist to stay on top of the assists list with 19 each.
