KINGSTON, R.I. –
Lexie Boydston and
Darian Adams both scored a goal but the Davenport women's hockey team couldn't bounce back from a three-goal third period in their 5-2 loss to Northeastern on the final day of the ACHA Division I Showcase Sunday morning. The Panthers return to Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association action this weekend with a home-and-home series with Grand Valley State. The first contest begins Friday at the Lakers' Georgetown Ice Arena at 8 p.m.
Davenport dominated the opening period by outshooting the Huskies 13-8 but couldn't capitalize. Northeastern would break the ice with a pair of goals at the 12:36 and 16:23 marks.
The Panthers got the only goal in the second period, which cut the Huskies lead in half, at 16:40. Adams won the faceoff and
Chantal Caraher gathered the loose puck and hit Boydston with a pass in the neutral zone. Boydston split two defenders and beat the Huskie goalie in the top shelf glove side.
Northeastern regained the two-goal lead at the 5:20 mark in the third period and added another just over two minutes later. Adams tallied the Panthers second goal at 12:15 with help from Caraher and
Melissa Cresse but the Huskies completed the 5-2 score with a goal at 18:25.
