Women’s Hockey Picks Up First Win Over Wyoming

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's hockey team picked up its first win of the 2024-25 season on Saturday evening, defeating Wyoming 5-4 at the Patterson Ice Center.

Heading into the second period, the Panthers trailed 1-0, but Alyssa Buzar and Kaylen Clark each found the back of the net to tie the score at 2-2 heading into the final period.

Eight minutes into the third period, Buzar scored two goals in a 30-second span to push the DU lead up to two (4-2). However, the Cowgirls answered with a pair of goals over the ensuing 10 minutes of play to knot the score at 4-4. In the final minutes, Dayna Templeton scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Ainsley Skinner at the 18:56 mark.

Buzar finished with a game-high three goals to lead the way for the Panthers. Clark and Templeton each finished with one goal and an assist in the win for the Panthers. Kennedy Christensen and Skinner chipped in with two assists.

Looking ahead, the Panthers will take on Grand Valley State on Friday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Hudsonville, Mich.
