YPSILANTI, Mich. – A night after a huge win over a top five team in the country in Liberty the D1 Hockey looked to keep the momentum going to in a their game against GLCHL foe Eastern Michigan. The Panther power play was hot as they converted on all power play chances to lead them to a 7-2 win over the Eagles.
Robert Kleiman and
Andrew Frank both had four points on the night, while
Phil Graveline had 29 saves on the night.
Looking to use the momentum from last nights game DU looked to come out and set the tone early and they did just that as
Phil Wendecker scored the first goal of the night 6:28 into the game. The Panthers did not stop there as
Robert Kleiman increased the Panther lead to 2-0 with his first goal of the night.
Eastern Michigan stopped the Panther run to cut the lead in half, but DU came back a minute later as
Zack Blumke found the back of the net off a feed from Winston Hoefer to bring the Panther lead back to four.
Mason Bohlinger closed out the scoring in the first period to give Davenport a 4-1 lead into the intermission.
The second period did not see any scoring, but the Panthers got back to their scoring ways in the third period as
Luke McCarthy scored a goal just 57 second into the period to give the Panthers a 5-1 lead. The Eagles got on the board one more time to make it a three-goal game, but two minutes later Kleiman scored his second goal of the game to put DU up 6-2.
Midway through the period
Andrew Frank added his first goal of the night, after tallying three assists prior, to close out the scoring and give Davenport the 7-2 win, and win back-to-back games for the fourth times this season.
After head coach
Phil Sweeney talked about how the team used last night win as momentum tonight, "We played with a lot more confidence tonight, and we had all four lines rolling tonight. Positionally we were strong; tonight we played a full 60 minutes. A lot of things went right and it was a solid win."
The Panthers will be close out their three game in three-day stretch Saturday as they head back to Ypsilanti, Mich. to take on Eastern Michigan once again at 7:30 p.m.
Post-Game Notes
Davenport outshot Eastern Michigan, 52-31, and now has outshot their counterpart in eight consecutive games. The Panthers were perfect on the power play as they went 3-for-3.
Phil Graveline picks up his second win in as many nights to move to 6-5 on the season, and the Panthers are 9-6-0-1 overall and 6-4-0-0 in conference play.
