ADRIAN, Mich. – The Davenport D1 hockey team looked to continue their winning streak as they went to Adrian, Mich. to battle No. 7 Adrian. The Panthers were able to capitalize on the rush as they scored three goals in the second period all when DU was on the rush. Despite a third period goal by the Bulldogs, the Panthers added an empty net goal to hang on to a 4-1. DU will have the weekend off for the holiday, but will be back in action on December 6 as they travel to Dearborn, Mich. to take on Michigan-Dearborn at 7:30 p.m.

The first period did not see much action on the scoreboard as both the Bulldogs and Panthers were trying to find their rhythm against one another. Both teams had power play opportunities but both penalty kill units and goaltenders came up big.

The first half of the second period started the same way but DU found their groove on the rush, as Stephen Flood found Luke McCarthy coming up the right side and McCarthy was able to finish it for a goal to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Once again on the rush Andrew Frank made a nice drop pass to Tyler Layle who was streaking up the left side to beat the Adrian goalie glove side.

Just a few seconds after Layle doubled the Davenport lead captain Phil Wendecker came charging in on a loose puck to push it through the Adrian net minders legs to push the lead to three goals. Phil Graveline continued to make save after save, as he had stopped all 26 shots he faced through the first two periods.

The third period opened with the Panthers having two power play chances, but could not cash in as the Bulldogs scored a power play with 13 minutes left in the game to make it a 3-1 game. Both team had some more special teams chances but neither goal gave an inch, as the Panthers were able to add an empty net goal by Matt Ogden to hang on to the 4-1 win.

After the game head coach Phil Sweeney talked about how his team has looked in the past few games. "It is nice to have guys healthy and have a full line-up. Guys are really starting to the systems the right way, and there is not a lot of room out there for other teams to move and get great scoring chances, and you are not going on a winning streak with out great goaltending and again Graveline played awesome."

Sweeney continued about his thoughts on tonight's game, "It was two good teams playing the great game of hockey, a couple of bounces you never know what could happen. It was a great game by both teams and I am proud of our guys in the 4-1 dominating win."

The Panthers will be off this weekend for the holiday break, and then they will head to Dearborn, Mich. to take on Michigan-Dearborn on December 6 at 7:30 p.m.
