GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After picking up two wins over the weekend against Michigan-Dearborn, the D1 hockey team will look to continue their win streak as they head to Kent, Ohio to play Kent State in Friday and Saturday. Head coach,
Phil Sweeney and his team will look to build off last weekend as they bring in a 6-3-0-1 record into next weekend as Kent State comes in at 3-8-0-0 after they dropped to close games to Oakland over the weekend. The Panthers and Golden Flashes will play on Friday and Saturday in Kent, Ohio.

SCOUTING KENT STATE:
Kent State sits at 3-8-0-0 on the year and is in seventh place in the GLCHL after they picked up their first conference win two weeks ago against Michigan-Dearborn. The head coach of the Golden Flashes is Jim Underwood, and captain Joe Kummeral. Leading the way offensively for Kent State is TJ West who leads the team in goals with seven and overall points with ten. Behind West are Alex Compean and Trevor Handlovitch who are tied for the team lead with six assists and have nine points each.
In net, Underwood has split time with Zachary Nowak, Phil Haywood, and Cesare Dall'Ara, each have picked up one win. Dall'Ara leads the goaltending core with a 2.50 goals against average and .92 save percentage. Nowak has the most saves out of the three with 151 saves on the season.
LAST MEETING:
The last time the Panthers and Golden Flashes met was in the GLCHL tournament quarterfinal at Patterson Ice Center. DU jumped out to a 4-0 lead and it looked like it was going to be another run away game for Davenport, but Kent State scored two quick goals early in the third period to cut the lead in half. However,
Mason Bohlinger would but the game away in the last minute to ice a 5-2 victory.
WEEKEND RECAP:
This past weekend DU got back to their winning ways as they swept Michigan-Dearborn in a home-and-home series. They won the first game in Dearborn, Mich. 9-3 and game two at Patterson Ice Center 4-2. DU used a balanced attack as four different player's tallied four points throughout the weekend.
Phil Graveline played in both games this weekend and made a total of 67 saves this weekend.
THE PANTHERS:
After getting a pair of wins last weekend DU looks to that success and continue to build of that streak. Leading the way for head coach
Phil Sweeney offensively is Robert Klieman leading the team in assist with seven and points with 11. Leading the team in goals is
Luke McCarthy and
Phil Wendecker with five each, and both are second and third on the team in points with ten and nine, respectively. In net,
Phil Graveline has been a key as he has .929 save percentage and 2.32 goals against average.
The Panthers have been productive in both facets of special teams as they scored four power play goals in the past two games and they killed off 11 of 12 Kent State power plays over the weekend.
GLCHL OUTLOOK:
The GLCHL is still led by Adrian with 24 points and having only lost one game in conference to Michigan-Dearborn. Oakland is just behind the Bulldogs with 21 points and is 7-5-0-0 in conference as they were able to squeak out two wins over Kent State last weekend. Eastern Michigan is in third place with 14 points, and Davenport is starting to move up the standings as they sit in fourth place with 12 points as they get into their conference schedule. Western Michigan is holding onto fifth place by only one point as Michigan-Dearborn is right behind them with nine points. Rounding out the GLCHL is the Panther next opponent, Kent State, as they are in seventh place with three points.
