Scouting Lawrence Tech – 3-7, 1-4 WHAC – Head coach Tom Kempf (2nd Year)
Lawrence Tech is in their second year of sponsoring a varsity men's basketball team and veteran college coach Tom Kempf has his team with as many wins this year already as they had all of last season. The Blue Devils are 3-7 overall coming into the matchup on Saturday at Davenport and those three wins match the total from 2012-13 (their inaugural year) in which they went 3-27. Kempf still has a very young lineup with no seniors on the roster and is one that includes two freshman and eight sophomores. Jake Mullin leads the team in scoring at 15.3 points per game while Brad Watterworth is tops in rebounds (5.0) and blocks (0.5). Mullin ranks No. 3 in the NAIA in total 3-pointers made as the sophomore has 38 on the season.
Last Year vs. Lawrence Tech
The Blue Devils were in their first year as a varsity program and DU handed them two losses both of which came by more than 20 points. DU won 66-43 in Southfield and then 82-57 at home in the second meeting.
Familiar Face on LTU Sideline
The Blue Devils, in just their second year as a varsity program, have a familiar face on the sidelines calling the shots. Head coach Tom Kempf spent eight seasons as cross-town foe Aquinas College where he helped the Saints to four appearances at the NAIA National Tournament in Point Lookout, Mo. Kempf guided the Blue Devils to a 3-27 mark in his inaugural season and the team has already matched that win total so far in 2013-14.
