HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The Davenport women's lacrosse team opened its season with a 16-2 loss at the Savannah College of Art & Design Sunday afternoon. Sara Kuzava and freshman Emily DeVries produced the two goals for the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Panthers had a bit of struggles in several statistical categories. DeVries led the effort in shots by making two of the Panthers five but the team was outplayed in ground balls 17-7 and in draw control 14-4.

In her collegiate debut, Lena Henderson made three saves.

Davenport didn't get their two goals in the second half. Kuzava nailed the first goal with 18:07 left and DeVries got the second in with 43 seconds left in the game.

The Lady Panthers are back in action Tuesday as they head to the campus of Young Harris to play the Mountain Lions at 4 p.m.

Post-Game Quotes – Head coach Celeste Shefferly

On her team's performance in the first game - “Our defense did okay. They had to play defense the whole game and it can get tiring. Most of their goals were off our mistakes. We just didn't play at our level. We didn't have any composure and we gave up too quickly. But it was nice to get out there and see what our transition looks like and what we need to improve on."
