Sara Kuzava scored four goals,
Amy VanEns added two and
Taylor Balch had a goal along with a pair of assists as the Davenport women's lacrosse team halted Siena Heights late rally to win the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference contest 10-8 late Sunday morning. The Panthers improve to 6-2 on the year and 1-2 in the WHAC.
Tara Pluger and
Schae Hoebeke both recorded a goal and an assist while
Emily DeVries tallied what was eventually the game winning goal.
Lena Henderson made a return to the pipes for the first time in two games. She stopped eight shots and was awarded her fourth win of the season.
The Saints had a 2-0 just over 10 minutes into the game when Kuzava and VanEns nailed a pair of goals to take a 4-2 lead with 8:35 left. Siena Heights would cut the lead to one 16 seconds later but Hoebeke and Kuzava would tally a goal before halftime to take a 6-3 lead.
Kuzava would score the Panthers seventh goal seven minutes into the latter half and Balch, DeVries and Pluger each scored to take a 10-3 lead.
The Lady Panthers will take a well-deserved time off and will get back into action to play two of their next three games at DU Turf Field, starting Beltline rival Aquinas March 19 at 5 p.m.
Post-Game Notes
Sara Kuzava matched her season-high four goals. She scored four against Young Harris...This was just the second meeting ever between Davenport and Siena Heights, with the Lady Panthers winning the first contest last year 20-7...The was the first WHAC win for the Lady Panthers as the conference started sponsoring women's lacrosse this season in part of the NWLL.
