GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Kaitlyn Lowden and Hannah Maroe both scored for the Davenport women's lacrosse team, but Notre Dame (Ohio) scored all the goals it needed in the first half to beat the Lady Panthers 16-2 in non-conference action at DU Turf Field Saturday afternoon.

Davenport (6-3) had a bit of struggles winning the possession as the Falcons (4-1) won the draw control 12-8. Despite winning the ground ball category 19-15, the Panthers would commit 21 turnovers overall, including 15 in the opening half.

The Falcons quickly jumped on the board 30 seconds into the game and would take an 8-0 lead at the 13:31 mark. The Panthers were able to break the Falcons rhythm at 10:22 when Lowden ran inside the arc and beat out three defenders for the first goal.

The Panthers second goal came at the 2:03 mark. From the edge of the center circle on the Panthers zone, Bridget Zuidgeest put the ball back into play by finding an uncovered Maroe, who ran away from the crowd and beat Falcon netminder Kelsey Harvey.

Despite allowing 13 goals in the first half, Davenport produced a different result in the second as Notre Dame only scored a pair of goals in the period.

Davenport will have Sunday off, but will be hoping on a bus to travel to Chicago to play Robert Morris (Ill.) Monday at 7 p.m. EDT.

Post-Game Quotes – Head Coach Celeste Shefferly

On the second half performance – “I think the team got rid of their defeated attitude in the second half, and they kind of decided to turn it around themselves.”

On the draw control in the first half – “We didn't do terrible on draw controls, but we weren't beating the other team, which definitely reflected on the score. We need to keep working on those at practice.”

On trying to get back into the win column – “We definitely need to start recognizing our opportunities and taking advantage of them. There were a lot of times in this game where we could have had a lot of easy goals off of their defensive mistakes. We just need to critically think when we are on the field.”
