GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport scored four straight goals to get within one in the final minutes but a last second shot was blocked as No. 3 Indiana Tech escaped with a 14-13 win on Saturday night. The loss ends a five game winning streak for DU as they fall to 5-2 on the season and 0-1 in the WHAC. The Panthers will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Adrian to face Siena Heights University in another league contest.

Davenport was led in scoring by Tara Pluger and Kaitlyn Lowden as they each had five goals but it was not enough to overcome a powerful Indiana Tech offense that posted eight goals in the first half and six more in the second to post a win in the first ever WHAC game to be played.

The opening half saw the No. 3 ranked Warriors take command with a 6-1 run to start the game and it looked as if they would continue their offensive onslaught until two quick goals from DU by Tara Pluger and Taylor Balch forced Tech into a timeout. DU kept the momentum going and scored three more compared to just two from the Warriors as Davenport trailed 8-6 at the break. The last goal was scored by Kaitlyn Lowden with just 10 seconds to play.

The Panthers tried to continue the comeback early in the second half but Tech scored three of the first five goals to up their lead back to four but a Lowden goal with 18:20 remaining made it 12-9. Two more Warrior goals gave them a five goal lead but DU did not stop fighting and a 4-0 run highlighted by a pair of Lowden goals had the margin down to just one at 14-13 with 4:30 to play. Numerous shots were saved in the final minutes and a Lowden shot with under 10 seconds was blocked and time ran out on DU's comeback effort.

Davenport will continue league play on Sunday when they travel to Siena Heights for an 11 a.m. matchup with the Saints. DU will be back home on March 17 when they welcome in NWLL foe Lindenwood-Belleville at 12 p.m.
