Weekly Notes
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After finishing the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference season with a 2-3 record, the Davenport women's lacrosse team will have the third seed to the conference tournament and will visit second-seed Aquinas in the semifinal round Thursday at 4 p.m. The winner of that game will face the winner of top seed Indiana Tech and fourth-seed Siena Heights Saturday while the losers of each contest will meet in a consolation game held at the host of the championship game.
What's at stake for the four WHAC schools is a trip to the eight-team National Women's Lacrosse Tournament. The conference has two automatic bids to the national tourney and has given one to Indiana Tech for winning the regular-season crown. Should the Warriors win the tournament, then the runner-up of the championship game will receive the other automatic bid.
Thursday's meeting between Davenport (7-7, 2-3 WHAC) and Aquinas (10-4, 3-2 WHAC) will be the third in the span of nine days. The two rival schools first met at Aquinas last Tuesday where the Saints pounded the Panthers 21-9.
The series shifted over to DU Turf Field last Saturday and a different result was produced. Davenport had a 5-3 lead at halftime but the Saints rallied early the second period to take the lead. Davenport chased Aquinas like cat-and-mouse throughout the half but four consecutive goals secured the Saints 17-14 victory.
