BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's rugby team showed no flaws in their first game away from DU Turf Field Friday night. Three Panthers recorded two tries while another three each added one to lead Davenport to a 55-5 victory at Ferris State.
Danielle Ordway had a pair of tries and only missed one of her five conversions for 18 points on the evening to lead the Panthers.
Hunter Moreland and
Brenna Donahue also had a pair of tries each while
Cassie Clark,
Makala Ferguson and
Gabby Florez. In addition,
Hannah Tennant put a pair of points on the board with a conversion.
The Panthers jumped to a 7-0 lead with a try made by Ordway following a successful conversion by Tennant. Although the Panthers had no problems bringing the ball to the end line, they struggled to make the conversions, missing four straight kicks.
Clark put Davenport ahead of Ferris State 12-0 with a try and Ordway connected her second try of the night after. Donahue and Moreland closed out the opening half with successfully tries to give Davenport a commanding 29-0 lead.
Ferris State became the first team to record a try against Davenport at the start of the second half.
Before they enter a bye week, the Panthers will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., to face Western Michigan on Sept. 21.
