GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A new era begins in Davenport Athletics this weekend as the women's rugby team opens their inaugural season against fellow Beltline school Calvin at DU Turf Field Saturday at 7 p.m. Fans can follow the game live via on the Davenport Athletics Network.

Twenty-one student-athletes will suit up for head coach Greg Teliczan when they play seven opponents in 15s action this fall. The program enters its first year as a member of the newly-formed American Collegiate Rugby Union and will compete in the Great Lakes Conference, which features opponents such as Calvin, Grand Valley State, Western Michigan, Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State.
 
Looking to help Teliczan get the women's rugby program going is Jordan Wiseman, who recently graduated from Grand Valley State and has served as the Lakers president and co-captain.
