SYLVANIA, Ohio – The 10th-ranked Davenport men's basketball team brought a 16-point deficit early in the second half down to two with 10 seconds left in the game, but a pair of free throws with three seconds left helped Lourdes escape with a 75-71 win in round three of the season series.

Freshman Nick Gamble scored 18 points to match his season-best and being one of four Panthers to reach double figures. JaVontae Ford and Braima Hai both had 13 points while DeArmond Davis finished with 12 points and added nine rebounds.

The Panthers though could not find an answer to Lourdes' Zach Steinmetz, who led the game with 24 points and 15 rebounds. The Gray Wolves also compiled a 42.2 percentage from the field while going 1-for-10 from beyond the arc.

Both teams combined for 54 fouls with Lourdes going 36-for-49 from the free throw line, Davenport 23-for-30.

Davenport took a 5-0 lead with 18:39 left in the opening period but Lourdes turned the momentum around and built an 8-0 run to take a three-point lead.  Although Davis' jumper followed by a free throw tied the game eight apiece, Lourdes regained the lead and took a 15-2 run in 5:22 to build a 23-10 lead with 8:33 left.

DU went into the locker room only shooting 26.1 percent from the field and made only one 3-pointer in 10 attempts. Ford led the way with six points while Davis and Derek Brooks had five. Davis brought down four of Davenport's 11 rebounds.

While Lourdes was shooting 42.9 around the perimeter, Steinmetz had 14 points heading into the the break.

After Steinmetz's jumper gave Lourdes its largest lead (40-24) in the game with 18:44 left, Davenport found itself back into the game thanks to a 9-0 run led by Nick Gamble and Kevin Rich to cut Lourdes' lead to 52-45 with eight minutes left.

Trailing 73-69 with 15 seconds left, the Panthers caught a break when Ford picked off an inbound and connected to Davis for the layup to cut the deficit to two. However, Ford sacrificed himself with his fifth foul to put his team's chances of tying the game by putting Lourdes at the free throw line, where Elvin Butler made the two opportunities to regain the four-point lead.

The Panthers return to the state of Ohio one more time as they will face Northwestern Ohio Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Post-Game Notes
Davenport falls to 1-2 in the season series with Lourdes but still holds a 6-2 lead in the all-time series…It is the first time the Panthers have fallen on an opposing team's home floor.
