GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team got back to its winning ways on Wednesday night as they picked up a 68-53 win over Lawrence Tech in Southfield. The victory lifts the Panthers to 18-5 on the season while they are 11-4 in WHAC play. DU will return home on Saturday to face second place Madonna University at 3 p.m. inside the Student Center.

Dominez Burnett made his return to the court with a 21 point performance to help the No. 15 ranked Panthers avoid a two-game losing skid with a 68-53 victory over host Lawrence Tech. Joining the sophomore in double-figures was freshman Kevin Rich who chipped in with 10. DeArmond Davis led DU on the boards with six while he also was the team leader with a pair of assists.

Davenport opened the first minute of the game with four straight points from DeArmond Davis and Kevin Rich but then went on a cold spell that saw the Blue Devils rattle off 12 of the next 14 points to lead 12-6 at the 11:45 mark. DU went over 6:20 without a point but those started to come in bunches over the final 10 minutes as the Panthers used a 9-2 run to re-take the lead at 15-14 and they extended it to as many as six which was the halftime score of 32-26.

The lead continued to grow early in the second half as the Panthers rattled off the first five points with three more from Dominez Burnett and a pair from JaVontae Ford as DU built a 37-26 lead. Lawrence Tech battled back however and trailed by just four (35-39) with just over 14:00 to play. Dominez Burnett then took over the game on the offensive side while he and his teammates turned up the defense.

Davenport went on an 11-3 run with Burnett scoring six of those points and the lead continued to grow after that with a Braima Hai three-pointer giving DU a 59-42 lead with 7:30 to play. The Blue Devils did get the lead down to just 10 (61-51) but the Panthers slowed down the game and ultimately came away with a 15-point victory.

Davenport finished 27-47 (57.4%) from the field while limiting the Blue Devils to just 44.4% on their home floor. The Panthers held a 29-19 advantage on the glass while forcing the Blue Devils into 16 turnovers.

The Panthers will return home Saturday for a showdown with Madonna University in a 3 p.m. tip. The game will be part of a DU Tweet it with the sports information and sports marketing departments.
