GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 13 ranked men's basketball team overcame a 5-point halftime deficit to claim an 81-75 win over Concordia at the DU Student Center Wednesday evening. The Panthers got a combined 50 points from Dominez Burnett and JaVontae Ford to improve to 14-3 on the season and 7-2 in league action. DU will return to action on Saturday when they face Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne at 3 p.m.

Dominez Burnett finished with 29 points and JaVontae Ford posted 29 while DeArmond Davis finished with 11 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and three steals as the Panthers increased their win streak to four games.

Davenport got out to a fast start behind the play of Dominez Burnett who scored the first four points and ten in the opening half as DU built an early 8-2 lead. That margin grew to 10 at 19-9 on another layup from Burnett and it looked as if the rout was on. The visiting Cardinals had other ideas however as they outscored the Panthers 32-17 the rest of the way to take a 41-36 lead into the break.

Leading the charge for Concordia in the opening half was Jesse Schienke who posted 14 points which was six above his season average of eight. Sharpshooter John Schaeffer finished with 10 in the first 20 minutes.

Looking to overcome only their sixth halftime deficit of the year, Davenport got off to a strong start by scoring the first five points to tie the game at 41-41. The Cardinals fought back to take a 48-43 and that see-saw action would continue until the 9:56 mark when Davenport took their first lead since the 6:33 mark of the first half on a Kevin Rich 3-pointer.

Concordia hung tough and led 67-66 with 3:31 remaining but DU would use an 11-2 run over the next 3:03 to take a 77-69 lead and they hung on for the 81-75 victory. DU used the foul line to their advantage in the closing half as they connected on 20-24 from the stripe while making only 11 field goals.

The Panthers ended the game shooting 43.9% from the floor while the Cardinals were red-hot, finishing 25-47 (53.2%). After posting six turnovers in the first half, DU took much better care of the ball in the second, finishing with just eight on the night. Four players finished in double-figures for the Cardinals led by 19 points from Schienke and 17 from John Schaeffer.

The Panthers will look to extend their winning streak to five when they take on the Warriors of Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne on Saturday at 3 p.m.
