St. Charles, MO. – The Davenport Men's rugby team hit the road for the first time in over a month as they traveled to Missouri to take on No. 4 Lindenwood.
Dominique Bailey tallied the lone try of the game between both teams as Davenport rode a stellar defensive display and defeated the Lions by a score of 7-3.
Saturday's match started with Lindenwood being awarded an early penalty, and opted to kick for points as they held on to a 3-0 lead. The 3-0 lead didn't stop Davenport from dominating the time of possession for the rest of the half, which eventually led to a Dominque Bailey try send the Panthers into the half with a 7-3 lead.
In the second half, Lindenwood pressures early which led to a yellow card in the favor of Davenport, and forced the Panthers to play a man down for 10 minutes. Davenport battles hard through those 10 minutes and still manages to keep Lindenwood try-less for the rest of the game.
Jean Pierre Eloff had a shot at two penalty kick attempts in the second half, but couldn't put the ball between the uprights.
The Panthers walked away from Saturday's contest with a hard fought 7-3 victory, and found themselves defeating a top 12 team for the second time in the past week.
Saturday's match was played in memory of fallen Lindenwood player Charles Labry, and will now be an annual event between the two clubs from here on out.
Saturday's victory marks the end of the fall season for the Panthers, and they will now have a month off before competing in the Arkansas State 7s tournament November 22-23.
