GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team played their first conference road game on Wednesday night as they travel down the Beltline to face Aquinas.
Dominez Burnett led all scorers with 22 points in the game and
Nick Gamble chipped in with 13 points. The Panthers won their sixth straight game to start the season as they beat the Saints, 68-56. Davenport will now host Madonna on Saturday at the DU Student Center at 3 p.m.
Once again the Panthers had three players in double figures as
Dominez Burnett had 22 points and
Nick Gamble chipped in with 13 points.
Thomas Drew made the most of his opportunities as he went 3-for-4 from the field including a pair of threes to tally 10 points in the game. Davenport held Aquinas to just 36.2 percent shooting from the field.
To start the first half, both teams struggled to shoot the ball as Davenport started 1-for-5 from the field while Aquinas was 0-for-4. Both teams started to pick up their shooting as the half went on as the Panthers finished the half shooting 47.8 percent and the Saints were 35.7 percent shooting the half. To close out the half, Aquinas went on a 10-2 to run to tie the game, 29-29 heading into the break.
The Panthers struggled to hang onto to possession as they had ten turnovers in the first half alone, opposed the Saints only turning the ball over seven times in the first half.
After
Dawid Czerniawski made free throw to give Davenport a one-point lead, the Saints took their first lead of the game with 18:09 left in the second half. The Panthers then went a 9-0 run to take a 39-31 lead with 15:18 left in regulation.
The Panthers started to pull away late in the second half as they held the Saints to just 36.8 percent in the second half. Davenport took their largest lead of game of 18 points with 3:26 remaining after
Dominez Burnett hit a three pointer. The Panthers went on to win their sixth straight game to start the season, 68-56.
Davenport will now host Madonna at the DU Student Center on Saturday at 3 p.m. to continue their WHAC schedule.

Dominez Burnett continues to have the shooting touch from the free throw line as was 11-for-12 in the game and is now shooting 91.8 percent on the season.
