GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team continued their WHAC schedule on Saturday afternoon as the took on Madonna.
Dominez Burnett tied his season high in points of 29 en route to a 70-57 Panther win over the Crusaders. Davenport will play their final non-conference home game of the season when they host Jamestown College (N.D.) at 7 p.m. on Monday at the DU Student Center.
Dominez Burnett led the Panthers once again as he tied his season high in points with 29. Burnett also led the team with eight rebounds.
Kevin Rich was the only other Panther in double-figure with 13 points on the night. Davenport shot 51.7 percent in the first, but finished the game shooting at 44.6 percent.
In the first half, both the Panthers and Crusaders battled back and forth with the largest lead in the half was eight points after Burnett hit a three pointer at the buzzer to give Davenport a 39-31 lead at halftime. After falling behind 31-26 with 4:28 left in the first half, Davenport went on a 13-0 run to end half and take an eight-point lead into the half.
The Panthers started to pull away in the second half of the game as they took a ten-point lead with 13:17 left in the second half and led by double digits the rest of the game. Davenport took their largest lead of the game of 18 points with 8:48 left in regulation.
Burnett started to take over the game for the Panthers, as he was the only player with more than one field goal in the second half. The Crusaders got as close as 11 points with 3:32 left in the game, but DU was able hang on to win the game 70-57.
Davenport will now host Jamestown College (N.D.) on Monday at the DU Student Center for the Panthers final home non-conference game of the season.
Post-Game Notes Burnett tied his season high of 29 points and was one point shy of tying his career high of 30 points, which was set against Marygrove on November 16, 2013. This is the first time in the last four games that the Panthers did not have three players in double-figures. Davenport had a slim margin in rebounds as they out-rebounded Madonna 33-32 in the game.
