Iowa Bound! No. 13 Volleyball Rolls Past Olivet Nazarene 3-0

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – The Davenport volleyball team continued their record setting year by winning their first ever NAIA Opening Round match with a 3-0 victory over Olivet Nazarene. The No. 13 Panthers used three straight 25-18 sets to increase their win streak to eleven games and improve to 35-7 on the season. DU now advances to the NAIA National Championship final site presented by J&L Enterprises, in Sioux City, Iowa, starting Dec. 2.
 
Krissy Dill posted a .346 hitting percentage and was just short of a double-double, recording a team high 13 kills along with nine digs. Marcey DeHaan was next in kills for DU with eight followed by Molly Lameyer (7) and Hannah Stone (6). Morgan Torres led the pack with 13 digs while Getty posted 31 assists.
 
Set one of the match started out in favor of the Olivet Nazarene Tigers as they jumped out to a quick 6-3 lead. DU eventually settled in on their home court and strung together an 11-4 run to reclaim the lead and control of set one 25-18. Set two and three followed with the exact same results along with senior Amber Getty breaking the all-time career record for assists with a total of 4,984.  
 
The victory tonight advances DU to the final site of the NAIA National Championship. 24 schools will be placed into six pools and compete in round-robin action from Dec. 2-4. The top two teams from each pool advance to single-elimination bracket play starting on Dec. 5th. The NAIA will announce tomorrow at 6 p.m. which pool DU will be placed in and what time they kick off tournament play.

Davenport's NAIA Opening Round victory and trip to the NAIA National Championships in Sioux City, Iowa is a first for the Panther volleyball program…Amber Getty is now the career leader in total assists with 4,984 surpassing volleyball alum Kayla Vandermolen…Pairings for the national tournament will be announced tomorrow at 6 p.m.
