WYOMING, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team started their 2014-15 campaign on Tuesday night as they traveled to Wyoming, Mich. to face local rival Grace Bible.
Dominez Burnett led the team with 29 points and ten rebounds as the Panthers beat the Tigers 84-73. Davenport will now head to Fort Wayne, Ind. where they will face St. Catharine's (Ky.) to open up the Cougar Classic hosted by St. Francis.

Kevin Rich and
Thomas Drew both scored 12 points to round out the Panthers double figures scores. Burnett also led the team with four assists, four steals and three blocks.
Davenport started the game on a roll as they jumped out to an 18-7 lead with 12:29 left in the first half. Grace Bible used a 16-6 run to pull within one of Davenport and the Tigers took their first lead of the game with 5:51 left in the first half.
The teams continue to battle back and forth in the remaining minutes of the first half trading the lead five times in the half, as Grace Bible took a 34-33 lead into the half.

Nick Gamble chipped in with 11 points. As a team, the Panthers shot 31.4 percent from the field and was 16.7 percent from behind the arc.
In the second half, both teams continued to trade baskets and neither team could pull away. The Panthers and Tigers traded the lead seven times throughout the game. Davenport shot the ball better in the second half shooting 54.8 from the field to finish the game shooting 42.4 percent.
The Panthers will travel be in action next weekend when they travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. for the Cougar Classic starting Friday at 6 p.m. against St. Catharine's (Ky.)
Post-Game Notes Dominez Burnett set a new career high with three blocks in the game and tied his career of steals with four. This is the second time in program history that the men's basketball team beat Grace Bible at Aldrich Athletic Center and the first time since head coach
Burt Paddock took over the reins of the program. Davenport out rebounded Grace Bible 42-31.
