No. 15 Volleyball Downs No. 16 Madonna in 5-Set Thriller

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – After falling behind 0-2 to No. 16 Madonna the Panthers fought back to win the match in thrilling fashion 3-2 (18-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-12), taking over sole possession of first place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Davenport is now 29-7 overall and 18-2 in WHAC action and will face Lourdes and UM-Dearborn Saturday needing just one win to secure a share of their first ever WHAC Championship.

On a night when DU honored its four seniors Amber Getty, Belma Alic, Hannah Stone and Lexie Spetoskey it took a couple sets for the Panthers to get rolling against a tough Madonna team. The Crusaders posted a .421 and .316 hitting percentage in their first two set victories and recorded 36 kills compared to DU's 23.

The Panthers took their first lead of the match in the opening points of the third set and evened the match 2-2 with 25-18 and 25-21 victories. A 6-2 run to start set five was cut down to just a one point margin four different times in the final set but a Marcey DeHaan kill and an attack error by the Crusaders sealed the 15-12 set and match for DU.

Krissy Dill (15), Marcey DeHaan (13) and Hannah Stone (13) all reached double-digit kills while Stone also recorded a team high eight block assists. Amber Getty posted 51 assists and 10 digs in the win while Krissy Dill (25), Lexie Spetoskey (18), Morgan Torres (16), and Maddy Cassleman (12) all finished in double-digit digs.

The Panthers will complete their regular season on Saturday in the third and final WHAC crossover event hosted at the DU Student Center. Davenport will take on Lourdes at 12 p.m. and UM-Dearborn at 3 p.m., both matches can be viewed live on The DAN.
