GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – For the first time in program history the Panthers are Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Champions! Davenport won both matches in quick fashion defeating Lourdes and UM-Dearborn in straight sets to claim the regular season championship crown. The two victories puts DU at 31-7 overall and 20-2 in conference play and now they will host the conference tournament next Friday and Saturday.
Match 1 – Davenport, 3 Lourdes 0 (27-25, 26-24, 25-22)For the second straight match and 12
th time this season freshman
Krissy Dill posted double digits in kills (13) and digs (12) in route to DU's 3-0 victory over Lourdes. The Grey Wolves kept the sets tight forcing additional play in sets one and two but DU was able to take care of business for the straight set (27-25, 26-24, 25-22) victory.
Marcey DeHaan was solid on the net for DU recording 11 kills and a team high .524 hitting percentage.
Lexie Spetoskey led the Panthers in the digs department with 13 while
Amber Getty racked up 39 assists.
Match 2 – Davenport, 3 Michigan-Dearborn 0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-13)A 12-3 run to start set one of the match got the Panthers rolling to win set one 25-16 followed by identical 25-13 scores in sets two and three to seal the outright WHAC championship.
Dill recorded another double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs.
Morgan Torres led DU in digs as well with 12 and six other Panthers recorded kills in the match. DU tallied a .419 hitting percentage compared to .065 by the visiting Wolverines.
With the victories today the Panthers have earned the right to host the WHAC Tournament at the DU Student Center next Friday and Saturday. More information regarding times and opponents will be available next week on
