Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – The sixth-ranked Davenport men's basketball team took on their second NAIA top-15 team in as many days, as they faced 11th ranked Saint Ambrose (Iowa) on Monday afternoon.
Dominez Burnett set a new career high with 31 points in the game to lead the Panthers to an 81-62 win over the Bees. Davenport will wrap up the Saint Xavier Midwest Tournament on Tuesday as they face Marian (Ind.), who is also 2-0 in the tournament. Tipoff between Davenport and Marian is set for 5 p.m. EST.
For the second straight night,
Dominez Burnett led DU in scoring as he set a new career-high with 31 points, while he also chipped in with seven rebounds.
Kevin Rich had 13 points for the Panthers and led the team with eight rebounds, which tied his career that he reached on three previous occasions.
Nick Gamble was the third Panther in double figure with ten points as he went 3-for-6 from the field including a pair of three pointers.
Davenport raced out to another early lead against another NAIA top-15 opponent as DU took a 10-2 lead with 15:36 left in the first half and the Panthers took their largest lead of the half with 12:41 after
Nick Gamble was able to hit a shot from behind the arc to give the Panthers a 21-9 lead. The Bees brought the game back within three points with less than seven minutes left in the first half, but the Panthers were able to hang the lead the entire half as they took a 39-34 lead into the half.
After Saint Ambrose cut the DU lead to just one point 1:33 into the second half, Davenport continued their hot shooting from the first half to regain a double-digit lead with 14:40 left in the second half. The Panthers continued to pull away from the Bees as they took a 22 point lead with 4:48 left in the game after Burnett hit a three pointer to cap off his career day. The Panthers were able to beat their second top-15 opponent in as many days as they beat St. Ambrose, 81-62.
The Panthers will conclude the Saint Xavier Midwest Tournament on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. EST against Marian (Ind.), who also sits at 2-0 in the tournament, and
Rick Berkey will have the call live on the DAN.

Kevin Rich reached double figures for the fourth straight game and tied his career-high rebound mark with eight in the game… Davenport went 30-for-59 from the field in the game, which was the same mark they hit in the first game of the week against Saint Xavier (Ill.), and the Panthers were outrebounded by one board for the second straight game as well.
