CHICAGO, Ill. – The Davenport men's basketball team looked to go 3-0 at the Saint Xavier Midwest Tournament as they faced Marian (Ind.) on Tuesday afternoon.
Dominez Burnett had 30 points for the second straight game, but the Panthers fell to the Knights 63-51. The Panthers are now 12-3 on the season and they will be back in action on Monday, January 5th as they jump back into WHAC play on the road against Marygrove.

For the first time all season, the Panthers had only one player in double figures as
Dominez Burnett had 30 points for the second straight game, and was named to the All-Tournament team as he combined for 73 points in three games in Chicago.
Dawid Czerniawski had six points, while
Thomas Drew and
Bishop Robinson had five points apiece and were the only other Panther players to score more the two point in game.

After the Panthers jumped out to early leads in the first two games of the tournament, Davenport had a sluggish start as they started the game shooting 1-for-14 from the field as the Knights jumped out to a 21-4 lead. Davenport continued to struggle throughout the first half as they were never able to take the lead in the half, after they had never trailed in their last three games. At half time, the Panthers trailed the Knights 25-11.

Davenport came out strong to start the start second half as they went a 12-0 run in the first 3:45 of the half to pull within two points of Marian. The Panthers continued to battled back against the Knights, but DU could not take the lead in the game as Marian was able to hold off a few late Panther chargers as the Knights went on to win the game, 63-51.

The Panthers will return to action in the new year when they return to conference play on the road against Marygrove on Monday, January 5th at 7:30 p.m. in Detroit, Mich.

Post-Game NotesThe Panthers went 2-1 at the Saint Xavier Midwest Tournament for the second straight season, after they went 2-1 last year in their first appearance at the same tournament… For the first time all tournament, the Panther were able to outrebound their opponent as they grabbed 32 boards compared to just 31 by Marian… Davenport shot a season low 35.2 percent from the field even after shooting 48.5 percent in the second half, and the Panthers only made three shots from behinds the arc, which is another season low.
