GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport D1 hockey team looked to closeout the regular season with a sweep of No. 2 Robert Morris (Ill.). The seniors lead the way on senior night as each senior tallied a goal or an assist in the game. The Panthers finish the season with a 23-10-0-3 record on the season. Davenport will find out their spot in the National Tournament next week, before they head into the GLCHL Conference Tournament in Rochester, Mich., where they will start the tournament against Kent State at 5:30 p.m.

Davenport looked to bring the momentum from last night's win against the Eagles into the final game of the regular season. DU was able play the physical style of the play that they are used to and had some close chances in the first period, but neither team could score as Phil Graveline and the Robert Morris net minder stood their ground in net to keep the game scoreless after the first period.

Davenport came out charging in the second period and was able to sustain pressure in their offensive for the opening part of the period. DU took a penalty to give the Eagles a power play chance, but the Panthers cashed in as Bo Jacobs was able to beat the Robert Morris goaltender, shorthanded, to give DU the 1-0 lead. All seniors put the first goal of the game together, as Phil Wendecker and Phil Graveline were credited with the assists on Jacobs' goal.

The Panthers came right just a few minutes later, as Matt Ogden found a loose puck off a rebound and tapped into a wide open net to give DU a two goal lead. The Eagles finally found the back of the net for the first time in the game just ten seconds into a power play to make it a one goal game after two periods.

Robert Morris opened the third period with a power play and the Eagles tied the game just 27 seconds into the third period. The tie would not last long as Luke McCarthy chipped the puck into the Eagles end and corralled the loose puck and fired a pass to across the ice and found Robert Kleiman as he directed into the back of the net as DU regained the lead a minute later.

Andrew Frank added on to the Panther lead with a goal on the assists from Chris Eckler and Aaron Beally. John Brooks continued the scoring for the Panthers on a rush play late in the third period to give DU their largest lead of the night at three goals. The Panthers were able to keep hold of the puck to complete the sweep and close out the regular season with a 5-2 win over No. 2 Robert Morris.

After the game head coach Phil Sweeney talked about his team's performance this weekend to close out the weekend, "We saw a lot of structure and the potential of this team that we have been waiting for all year. Unfortunately, with injuries and other things we could never really get our lines set and certain guys together. It is starting to come together and it is coming down to where we know what guys ply good together, and you can see where this team can really excel."

The Panthers will head into the GLCHL Tournament in Rochester, Mich. with the number two seed in the conference and will start the tournament on Friday against Kent State at 5:30 p.m.
