No. 2 Women’s Lacrosse Beats No. 7 Aquinas for First Time in Program History

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The second-ranked Davenport women's lacrosse team beat seventh-ranked Aquinas for the first time in program history. Kaitlyn Lowden led the team with seven goals and an assist in the game, while Brooke Knoll followed with five goals and an assist. The Lady Panthers improve to 7-0 on the season and 3-0 in the WHAC. Davenport will continue their home stand on Saturday when they take on Urbana University (Ohio) on the DU Turf Field at 4 p.m.
 
Kaitlyn Lowden continues her scoring tare as she set a new career high with seven goals. Freshman Brooke Knoll also set a new career high with five goals against the Saints. Taylor Balch tallied nine points in the game to move into first place in Davenport history in all-time points in a career with 132 points, which surpassed Michon Moline's record of 129 total points.
 
The Lady Panthers started the game out fast as Emily DeVries scored the first goal of the game just 29 second into the game. Davenport scored the next four goals to jump out an early 5-0 lead. Aquinas finally got on the board with 21:26 remaining in the first half. The Panthers outscored the Saints 5-4 the remainder of the first half to take a 10-5 lead into the locker room.
 
In the second half, Davenport scored the first three goals to increase their lead to 13-5 with 27:32 remaining in the game. Dani Brodberg of Aquinas scored to cut the lead to seven, but the Panthers rattled off the next seven goals to take a 20-6 lead with 10:47 remaining in regulation. During the seven goal run the Panthers had seven different goal scorers. Aquinas and Davenport alternated goals the remainder of the game as DU won 23-9.
 
Davenport is now 7-0 on the season to improve on the best start in program history. DU also kept pace with Indiana Tech in the WHAC as both teams are now 3-0 in conference. Aquinas is now 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in the WHAC.
   
The Panthers will continue their home stand on Saturday when they host Urbana University (Ohio) on the DU Turf Field at 4 p.m.
