Offensive Explosion in Second Half Leads Women’s Lacrosse to Win over Urbana

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The second-ranked Davenport women's lacrosse team continues to improve on the programs best start in school history as they beat Urbana University (Ohio) 17-6. Jessica Lemcke led the offensive attack for the Panthers with six goals and Brooke Knoll chipped in with three goals of her own. Davenport is now 8-0 on the season. The Panthers will conclude their six game home stand on Sunday when they host WHAC foe Siena Heights at 2 p.m. on the DU Turf Field.
 
The freshman duo of Jessica Lemcke and Brooke Knoll led the Panther attack with a combined nine goals in the game. Sara Kuzava, Kaitlyn Lowden and Taylor Balch all had two goals each. Davenport continues to have a balanced offense as they had seven different goal scorers in the game.
 
Urbana (Ohio) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Hannah Walters scored her first goal of the game just 5:31 into the first half. However, Davenport came right back and scored two goals back-to-back, as Lemcke tallied one off of a free position shot and Knoll followed with her first goal of the game to give DU a 2-1 lead. The Panthers and Blue Knights battled back and forth in the first half as Davenport took a 5-3 lead into halftime.
 
The Blue Knights started the second half with another early goal as they looked to make a comeback in their first game of the season, but the Panthers went on a 10-1 run to shut the door the comeback and take a 15-5 lead with 6:58 remaining in the second half. Urbana scored a goal and Davenport followed with the final two goals of the game to win 17-6.
 
Davenport is now 8-0 on the season and continues the best start in program history. Urbana (Ohio) played in their first game of the season and are 0-1 on the season
 
The Panthers will step back into Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play when they host Siena Heights on Sunday at 2 p.m. on the DU Turf Field to close out their six game home stand.
