GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The cold and snowy weather at Davenport University's Turf Field did not cool off the Panthers' second-ranked women's lacrosse team from scoring four goals in the first five minutes to take control of a 19-5 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win over Siena Heights Sunday afternoon. After a busy week of four games, the Panthers continue their perfect season as they improve to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the WHAC as they head to the Saints campus Tuesday for a 7 p.m. showdown.
Brooke Knoll tallied four goals and an assist to lead the Panthers. Sara Kuzava, Jessica Lemcke and Taylor Balch also had a hat trick performance on the pitch; Kaitlyn Lowden added two and four Panthers found the back of the net once.
The Panthers defense also reached a season low five goals allow for the third time this season. Samantha Powers stopped three shots but allowed one goal in the first half while Lena Henderson made two saves in the other period. Natalie McHale continues to lead the pack in the back by causing three turnovers while collecting five groundballs.
Kuzava put the Panthers on the board 2:33 into the contest on a free position shot, Lemcke tallied her first goal of the day 28 seconds later and back-to-back goals by Knoll gave DU a 4-0 lead with 25:51 left.
The Saints (4-3, 2-1 WHAC) relied on the free position attempts to score three of their five goals. Erin Kehn led the effort scoring two goals and notching four assists on the afternoon.
Davenport went into intermission leading 15-1, having outshot the Saints 20-6 in the first period.
