Davenport picked up the wins it needed to punch a ticket to the spring version of the USA Rugby 7s Nationals in the qualifying stage at the campus of Lindenwood University last Saturday. The Panthers started the day defeating Saint Louis 27-5, host Lindenwood 24-14 and Grand Valley State 24-5 to win the pool play and receive a bye to the tournament championship, where they defeated the Lady Lions again 28-14. Danielle Ordway combined for eight tries and a conversion for 42 points on the day, Hunter Moreland, Brittany O'Dell and Joanie Marino added two tries while Makala Ferguson, Leah Tennant and Courtenay Tafel each added one. Mercedes Clifford made five conversions and O'Dell connected three.

The Last Time vs. Ferris State
Both Davenport and Ferris State have seen each other on the rugby pitch before as the Panthers traveled to Big Rapids to defeat the Bulldogs 55-5 back in Sept. 13, 2013. The Panthers showed no flaws in their second ever game and first on the road. Danielle Ordway had a pair of tries and only missed one of her five conversions for 18 points on the evening to lead the Panthers. Hunter Moreland and Brenna Donahue also had a pair of tries each while Cassie Clark, Makala Ferguson and Gabby Florez. In addition, Hannah Tennant put a pair of points on the board with a conversion.
