SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – After winning a tough battle with No. 4 Indiana Tech less than 24 hours ago, the second-ranked Davenport women's lacrosse team did not show any sign of fatigue when they downed Lawrence Tech 18-8 Tuesday evening. Kaitlyn Lowden scored four goals, Brooke Knoll and Jessica Lemcke both had three to round out the Panthers who completed a hat trick on the day. DU will have Wednesday off to prepare for a showdown with crosstown rival Aquinas on Thursday at 4 p.m.
The Panthers (13-0, 8-0 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) can clinch at least a share of their first league title with a win over the Saints.
After scoring seven goals to break the school's career record with 111 against Indiana Tech, Taylor Balch found the back of the net twice against the Blue Devils (3-8, 1-7 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) while notching five assists. Hannah Bush and Emily DeVries also had two goals each and Hannah Maroe added one.
With the four goals, the junior Lowden tied Michon Moline's 110 for second in the all-time list.
Samantha Powers made three saves, and Mackenzie VanDerWarf collected four ground balls to lead the Panthers (13-0, 8-0 WHAC) defense. Lemcke led the Panthers with nine opening draws and three caused turnovers.
The Panthers dominated the shooting department 39-18 along with winning groundballs 30-21 and draw controls 19-10.
Davenport took a 2-0 lead 2:14 into the contest with goals by Lowden and Knoll. Although the Blue Devils tied the game with 22:23 left, Balch broke the tie less than two minutes later and Maroe added some breathing room with her only goal at 16:32. The Panthers would score six goals within the final 10 minutes to take a 10-4 lead at halftime.
