GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Freshman Brooke Knoll scored a season-high seven goals, fellow newcomer Jessica Lemcke had six, and the second-ranked and top-seeded Davenport women's lacrosse team went into cruise control with a 29-13 victory in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal Friday evening. The Panthers will host third-seed Indiana Tech for the playoff championship Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Warriors earned a spot to the conference tournament championship after holding off second-seed Aquinas 17-16 later in the day.
Taylor Balch assisted six goals while tallying four of her own. Kaitlyn Lowden also had a hat trick and notched three assists. Sara Kuzava, Bridget Zuidgeest and Alison Bouman each found the back of the net twice to round of the Panthers (14-2) with multiple goals.
Along with outscoring the Saints (9-10), the Panthers dominated in groundballs 34-22 and draw controls 25-19.
Knoll got the game started with the first goal 59 seconds in, Kuzava, Balch and Zuidgeest also contributed to a 5-0 run with 23:58 left.
Davenport went into intermission leading 16-7. The Panthers defense also prevented the Saints from building any momentum. Siena Heights were held to only two consecutive goals at different parts of the game.
Post-Game Notes
Following the conclusion of the game, the WHAC announced the all-conference awards, naming Kaitlyn Lowden, Taylor Balch, Jessica Lemcke and Natalie McHale to the All-WHAC team; Rob Harris was voted WHAC Coach of the Year in his rookie season and Brooke Knoll and Mackenzie VanDerWarf received honorable mention…Davenport improves to a perfect 7-0 all-time against Siena Heights…The Panthers snap a two-game losing skid, having suffered defeats to Indiana Tech and Aquinas
