BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Taylor Balch scored five goals, Kaitlyn Lowden and Brooke Knoll each added four, and the second seeded Davenport women's lacrosse team opened closed the book on day one of the National Women's Lacrosse League Championship with a 19-8 opening-round victory over Missouri Baptist Thursday evening. The Panthers, who improve to a program-best 16-2 on the season, return to Lindenwood Stadium to play Robert Morris (Ill.) in the semifinal round Friday at 8:30 p.m. EDT.

Davenport had another player record a hat trick in Sara Kuzava. Bridget Zuidgeest had two goals and Jessica Lemcke finished with one to round out the Panthers in scoring.

The tandem of Balch and Lowden contributed to two goals while Knoll notched one assist. Lowden led the effort in both groundballs and the opening draw with six and five, respectively.

Netminder Samantha Powers made nine saves between the pipes and four different defenders each caused a turnover to pace Davenport's defense.

Although the Spartans (11-5) struck first at 1:31 into the contest, the Panthers quickly answered back with a goal by Balch 16 seconds later. The junior's goal would ignite an 8-0 run to build a seven-point lead. She would also complete the hat trick while Knoll had two during the momentum.

Zuidgeest and Balch each found the back of the net within the final minute to build a 12-3 lead at halftime.
