SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Davenport women's rugby couldn't hold on to a five-point lead as the University of Notre Dame scored two tries and added a conversion within the final five minutes to walk away with a 22-15 victory and hand the Panthers their second loss in 15's play Saturday afternoon. The Panthers finish the regular-season with a record of 9-2 and will now focus on postseason play starting with the spring version of the USA Rugby 7's National Championship Saturday.
Tami Weber,
Hunter Moreland and
Danielle Ordway each recorded a try for the Panthers while Ordway missed all three kicks for the conversion.
Notre Dame would play a game of cat-and-mouse with the Panthers throughout the game. Weber broke the ice with a try and the Irish managed to tie the game 5-5 before halftime. Moreland put the Panthers ahead 10-5 with a try in the second half only to see the lead disappear for a second time. Ordway gave the Panthers a 15-10 lead with her try but the Irish began their rally of a 12-0 run within the final five minutes.
