GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – Starting an 11-match swing through the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference got off on the right foot as the No. 25 ranked volleyball team defeated Aquinas College on the road in straight sets. Davenport, which fell one spot in the national Top-25 poll on Tuesday, made quick work of their rival Saints as they improve to 7-3 on the year and 2-0 in league action. DU will face Concordia in Ann Arbor on Friday.
Aquinas had Davenport on their heels midway through the opening set but after trailing 14-15, the Panthers scored 10 of the next 16 points to take the lead with a 25-20 victory.
Set two was dominated by the Panthers as they jumped out to a big lead early and never looked back, winning 25-15 while hitting at a .229 clip highlighted by six kills from senior
Hannah Stone. Then in the third, despite falling behind 8-4, the Panthers used a 14-2 run to close out the Saints in straight sets.
Marcey DeHaan and
Hannah Stone led the way on offense with nine kills each while
Krissy Dill posted 23 digs to go along with six kills in the victory.
DU remains on the road for their next two matches when they face Concordia in Ann Arbor on Friday and Lawrence Tech in Southfield on Saturday.
Post-Match NotesDavenport has now won their last six matches overall and has won 18 consecutive sets…The Panthers have won three in a row over their rival Saints and all have come via straight set wins…DU climbs over the .500 mark as a program for the first time since starting volleyball in 2006 (157-156 all-time)
