GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's rugby team continued their winning ways as they played host to the University of Michigan Thursday night. Both teams came out with stellar defensive play and kept each other out of the try zone for the first 20 minutes of the first half.
Caren Brown finally got the panthers on the board as she recorded her first try of the season and put Davenport ahead 5-0.
Julia Mayer and
Jennifer Harig were then able to build on that lead as Davenport fell into a comfortable 15-0 lead heading into the half.
Six different Lady Panthers would end up recording tries for Davenport on the night as
Danielle Ordway,
Brittany O'Dell, and
Carrie Eggleston also scored in the second half. Unfortunately, Davenport was only able to convert on 1-5 conversion kicks and was 0-3 in penalty kicks.
With 3:53 left to go in the second half, Michigan was able to get on the board as they prevented themselves from being shutout on the night. The seven points the Wolverines put up are the only points Davenport has allowed all season.
The Panthers stay home this weekend as Lindenwood comes to town on Saturday, Sept. 13. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
