GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's rugby team faced their toughest battle of the season as they squared off against Lindenwood University in their third straight home game on the DU Turf Field. The Panthers recorded their lowest score of the season by only putting up 20 points, but continued their efficient defensive play as they knocked off the Lions 20-5.
Hannah Tennant saw a lot of action in the match as she attempted five penalty kicks and converted two of them. Tennant was also 2-2 in conversion attempts.
Brittany O'Dell got in on the kicking action as well but was unable to convert on her lone penalty kick.
The game started out with both teams displaying ferocious defensive efforts, as neither team crossed the try zone until Lindenwood scored with three minutes left in the first half. The Panthers answered back quickly as
Danielle Ordway broke loose with time expiring to send the panthers into the locker room with a 13-5 lead.
The strong defensive performances continued for both teams as the score remained 13-5 all the way until the final minute of the game.
Courtenay Tafel bulldozed her way into the try zone with one minute remaining to give Davenport an emotional and hard fought victory.
Davenport improves to 3-0 on the season, and hits the road Friday as they travel to Allendale to face the Lakers of Grand Valley State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
