GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – After picking up a crucial league win on Wednesday over rival Cornerstone, the volleyball team came back home to open a two-match set at the Student Center and walked away with a 3-0 sweep of Marygrove. Davenport won by the scores of 25-17, 25-20, 25-13 to improve to 11-4 on the season and 6-1 in league play. The Panthers will host Indiana Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The offense had its way against the Mustangs' defense on Friday night as the Panthers hit .312 as a team led by 12 kills from
Marcey DeHaan (.550 percentage) and 11 from
Hannah Stone (.346 percentage).
Amber Getty finished with 37 assists while
Lexie Spetoskey led the team with 11 digs.
After five lead changes early in the opening set, DU used a 7-0 run to open an 18-11 lead and they never looked back finishing off the Mustangs with a kill from
Molly Lameyer. Marygrove did battle back in the second on some sloppy play by DU, but the Panthers prevailed 25-20 after scoring seven of the last 10 points.
The Panthers then hit .333 in the final set with 16 kills to finish off the night with a sweep.
Davenport now will host Indiana Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. They will be selling t-shirts before the game to benefit the fight against Childhood Cancer (Going for Gold).
